Every two years Tawa Intermediate puts on a major School Production. Our objectives are to involve the maximum number of students as possible and integrated it into our curriculum. We also aim to meet the needs of those with special talents and to provide opportunities for all students to become involved in the Arts. And most of all we want to have fun!
In order to fit in with our emphasis on being an Asia-aware school, for this production we are focusing on the connection between NZ and Asian countries in a global context.
‘The Silk Road’, our 2011 Production, will be performed from Tuesday 29th November through to Thursday 1st December. It involves an eclectic bunch of New Zealand tourists making their way along the old Silk Road from the West to the East, passing through Iran, India, China, Japan, Turkey and Vietnam, and experiencing the enduring influence of culture and tradition on life in Asia today.
Syndicates are currently busy practising and preparing their scenes. Students themselves are choreographing moves and organising their costumes and props. The Drama and Dance academies are rehearsing their lines and dance moves. The sound and lighting crew, under the guidance of Jimmy O’Carroll will be helping to create the atmosphere. Mrs Wilcock in the Art room is working with the Art Academy to create a new design for the proscenium arch.
It all started to become more real last Wednesday, when the stage was erected. A team of Tawa Intermediate students known as the Good Guys helped by Mr Buncks, Mr Rickard and Mr O’Carroll, scrabbled around beneath the current stage and put together the jig saw puzzle which eventually has become an apron stage with steps.
